It’s the Grapes!

The grapes grown in the Pacific Northwest are among the best wine grapes grown in the world. Although some my question our decision we consider Northern California in the Pacific Northwest.

Grapes have been grown in California for around 250 years since Missionaries introduced grape farming and wine making from Mexico.

The Northern California wine industry, with its long history in wine making has trained several generations of Vintners that have the skill to produce wonderful world class wines.

California Facts

California is a large state with a population of 37 million people.  It is around 800 miles long from the State of Oregon to its southern border with Mexico.

When it comes to wine California is the largest producer of wine in the United States and the fourth largest producer in the world with only Italy, France, and Spain producing more wine.

California has more than 1,600 wineries and more than 4,500 grape growers producing 2.7 million tons of crush.

Wine production and wine exports of California Wines world wide are growing by leaps and bounds.  In 1986 California wine exports were around $35 million.  Today California wine exports are over $900 million.  That represents growth of around 20% a year.

The US Government has recognized around 200 American Viticultural Areas (AVA’s) in the United States.  Almost 100 of those AVA’s are in California.
