History
Shoreline was first settled by homesteaders in the
1880’s. Appealing to people who worked in the city, but wanted to live in
the country, Shoreline was just north of Seattle but felt worlds away. Although
most of the population here worked outside the community there were local
farms and lumber mills. In 1906 the
construction of the Seattle-Everett Interurban rail line through Shoreline,
and the brick paving of the North Trunk Road in 1913, made travel to and
from Shoreline easier, increasing suburban growth. Still the area was not
incorporated until 1995 when it did so partly to ensure that the area would
not be annexed by the growing city of Seattle.
