Auburn is shown in yellow on the map above.
Below are the restaurants that we recommend and list in
Auburn, Washington.
|
There
are many restaurants to choose from in the Seattle Metropolitan
area. The Auburn area offers several choices with prices lower than in
downtown Seattle. Auburn
offers a peaceful, more rural setting with fewer parking problems and many
local attractions and restaurants. Auburn is also close to Tacoma,
Seattle, Seattle-Tacoma
International Airport, and other attractions in the lower Puget Sound.
History
Auburn is located between
Seattle and Tacoma
in the Green River
Valley. For hundreds of years it was an area covered
with swamps and thick forests. Early settlers turned it into a hops farming
community. The City of Auburn,
originally named "Slaughter", after Lt. William A. Slaughter, was
incorporated in 1891. Understandably it was renamed in 1893 because the residents
didn't like the negative connotations of the name. In 1900 farmers turned
to vegetable crops and dairy farms. In 1912 Auburn became a railroad town when the
Northern Pacific Railroad put in a terminal and many large locomotion shops
opened. Most of the shops had closed by 1970.
