Alki area of Seattle

The Alki area is southwest of downtown Seattle, across Elliot Bay. The area is a peninsula that juts north into the Bay. The Alki area is really two communities. First of all, that area at the bottom of the bluff by the beach is really a tourist or beach community. The whole beach is a park from Duwamish head west 2.5 mi. to Alki Point where the lighthouse is located.. The area above the bluff is a quiet residential area.

Spuds has been serving fish and chips here since 1935. Spuds is an Alki institution. Today it is owned by Ivar’s Seafoods of Seattle. On a hot summer day there are long lines to get fish and chips and take them across the street to the beach and have a picnic.

Salty’s sits on the northeast shore of Alki facing downtown Seattle. The view of Elliot Bay and the Seattle skyline is breathtaking. As you would guess from the name, this is a seafood restaurant. This is an upscale restaurant and very busy. They have an extensive wine list and bar. Reservations are usually a necessity.
