The Alki area is southwest of downtown Seattle, across Elliot Bay.  The area is a peninsula that juts north into the Elliot Bay west of downtown Seattle.

The Alki area is really two communities.  First of all, that area at the bottom of the bluff by the beach is really a tourist or beach community.  The whole beach is a park from Duwamish head west 2.5 mi. to Alki Point where the lighthouse is located.

The area above the bluff is a quiet residential area that is really part of the West Seattle area.

We split Alki and West Seattle at Andover Street  We have made this distinction only for mapping purposes.  These two neighborhoods are really only one neighborhood.

The map to the left is a map of Seattle, the Alki area is shown in red.  The downtown area of seattle is to the east (right) of the word “Bay”.

Attractions

The Alki Point lighthouse

http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=112

The Alki Point lighthouse is open to the public.  It was built in 1913 and still operates today.  Inside the light keepers house you can see photographs, nautical charts of Puget Sound, and old instruments.  This is still a US Coast Guard facility and the grounds are a show place.  It is open on weekends in the summer from 1:30 to 4:00 PM.

The Log House Museum

3996  61st Avenue SW

This museum is run by the West Seattle Historical society.  The building was once the carriage house of a Seattle logging family who lived here.  The museum is dedicated to the memory of the Denny party that landed here in 1851 and the Duwamish people who lived here.
