Area - Freemont

The map above is of Seattle, the Fremont Area is shown in RED.

Freemont

The southern border of this Seattle neighborhood is the Seattle Ship Canal.  This neighborhood is over 100 years old with a mix of commercial areas and residences.

Where is Freemont?

In Seattle take Interstate-5 Exit 167 – Mercer Street.  It will take you west to a stop light at Fairview Avenue.  Turn right onto Fairview and then in one block turn left onto Valley Street.  This is the route to Seattle Center.

On Valley Street move immediately to the right lane.  In 3-blocks take a right onto Westlake Avenue. Drive north up the east shore of Lake Union.  In 1.3 miles the road gently curves to the left (west) and goes under the Aurora Bridge.

Just past the bridge you will come to a “Y” in the road, keep right and go over the Ship Canal on the Freemont Bridge.  You are in the Freemont Neighborhood as soon as you cross over the bridge.

Freemont Neighborhood Boundaries

We designate our Fremont neighborhood of Seattle as the area between 8th Avenue Northwest and Aurora bounded on the north by North 50th Street, and the south by the Lake Washington Ship Canal and the Fremont Bridge. The core area of Fremont is one block from the bridge, at the intersection of Fremont Avenue North, North 35th Street and Fremont Place North.

A little about Freemont

Eclectic, funky, hip, creative, Fremont, also known as the “Center of the Universe” is all of these and more. The mood of creativity is set by the distinctive outdoor art, including the gigantic troll holding a Volkswagen bug under the north end of the Aurora bridge, an oversized and formidable bronze statue of Vladimir Lenin and the multi-story rocket that blasts steam from its base and sports Fremont’s motto on its side "De Libertas Quirkas"—which means "Freedom to be Peculiar.” Even the Fremont drawbridge is painted an unconventional blue and orange.

Fremont is filled with unusual shops, art galleries, vintage clothing stores, antiques and collectibles. A diverse mix of restaurants, pubs, nightclubs and coffee shops also line Fremont’s streets. You will also find microbreweries and even a chocolate factory. Add in some of the best people watching in Seattle and there is something for everyone in the Fremont district.

Fremont also boasts several festivals and special events for more information click on the links below.

The Fremont Fair

This festival starts the summer season with fun for the whole family. The not to be missed eccentric and zany Solstice Parade kicks off this weekend that also includes the Seattle Art Car Blowout, an art and crafts fair, street performances, music, entertainment and great food.
