The Magnolia area of Seattle is mainly residential.  It lies on the west end of a peninsula  between Elliot Bay and the Lake Washington Ship Canal northwest of downtown Seattle.  Magnolia is known for its expensive homes with panoramic views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains.

Magnolia is a town unto itself because of its relative isolation.  There are areas of Magnolia that don’t have views and less expensive housing exits giving the area some diversity.  There is a small commercial district at 32nd Ave. W and McGraw.

On the south side of the peninsula piers 90 and 91 project into Elliott Bay, there is a marina, and a couple of restaurants with views out over the Bay.

There are also commercial districts along the Lake Washington Ship canal on the north side of the peninsula.  To the east is a valley in which the BNSF railroad has a large switching yard.  The area in the valley is the Interbay neighborhood, named after the BNSF railroad switch yard.
