The First Hill area lies east of Seattle, Washington’s
downtown area on the east side of Interstate-5. By far, the dominating feature of this
neighborhood is hospitals. Harbor
View Hospital (regional trauma center staffed by the University of
Washington), Virginia Mason Hospital, and Swedish Hospital, are all located
in this area. This area of Seattle is almost
exclusively commercial or apartments.
Right in the middle of this area is Seattle University.
The map shown at the left is
of Seattle, Washington. It shows the boundaries of the
neighborhoods we use to organize Seattle. The First Hill Area is shown in Red.
The First Hill area’s
northern boundary is Union
Street, its eastern boundary is 23rd Avenue,
its southern boundary is Interstate-90 and its western boundary is
Interstate-5
Most of the commercial
activity and tourist attractions in this area are on Broadway. Broadway runs north into the Capital Hill Neighborhood.
There is some overlapping
of this neighborhood in the south end into our International District neighborhood. The establishments and attractions in the
International District are not on this page, they are on the International
District page.
