The First Hill Neighborhood

of Seattle, WA

and the attractions located there.

The First Hill area lies east of Seattle, Washington’s downtown area on the east side of Interstate-5.  By far, the dominating feature of this neighborhood is hospitals.  Harbor View Hospital (regional trauma center staffed by the University of Washington), Virginia Mason Hospital, Swedish Hospital, and Providence Hospital are all located in this area.  This area of Seattle is almost exclusively commercial or apartments.  Right in the middle of this area is Seattle University.

Seattle’s Central Area Neighborhood

Seattle’s Central area runs from East Madison Street on the north to Jackson Street on the south.  It runs from 12th Avenue on the west to 23rd Avenue on the east.

Most of the commercial activity in Seattle’s Central Area neighborhood occurs at 12th avenue east and 23rd Avenue east.  For ease of mapping we have included these areas in our First Hill area page. The eastern part, that area east of 23rd street, of Seattle’s Central Area Neighborhood is on our Central Area page.
