Seattle neighborhoods of Leschi, Madrona, and the Central District

Our Central Area of Seattle is east of the downtown area of Seattle on the shore of Lake Washington just north of Interstate-90. It runs along the Shore of Lake Washington from Union Street on the north to Interstate-90 on the south.  It runs from 23rd Avenue to the Lake Washington Shore.  This area is mainly residential with limited commercial area.  There are three distinct areas where tourist services exist, Leschi Beach on Lake Washington, on Union Street at the north end of Seattle’s Central Area Neighborhood and on 23rd Street on the western edge of this area.

The map shown at the left is of Seattle Washington.  The Central Area neighborhood is shown in RED.

Our Central area is east of both the First Hill area (which contains Seattle’s Central Area Neighborhood) and downtown Seattle. Our Central Area does not conform to the City of Seattle’s Central Area neighborhood.

The Madrona Community

The Madrona Community has its own website.  This community’s boundaries are from Denny Street on the north to Cherry Street and Terrace Street on the south and from Martin Luther King on the west to Lake Washington on the east.  Part of this area is in our Central Area.

The Leschi Neighborhood

Seattle’s Leschi Neighborhood is the southern part of our Central Area.  Its boundaries are from Cherry Street on the north, Martin Luther King Way on the west and I-90 on the south with Lake Washington shoreline on the east side of the neighborhood.

Seattle’s Central Area Neighborhood

Seattle’s Central area runs from East Madison Street on the north to Jackson Street on the south.  It runs from 12th Avenue on the west to 23rd Avenue on the east.

Most of the commercial activity in Seattle’s Central Area Neighborhood occurs on 12th avenue east and 23rd Avenue east.  Our motive in setting up our neighborhoods was ease of mapping.  It was an accident that we included Seattle’s Central Area Neighborhood in our First Hill area page.  Please visit our First Hill pages for more information on Seattle’s Central Area Neighborhood.
