Area - CentralAreaSeattle’s Central Area

The Central Area of Seattle is east of the downtown area of Seattle on the shore of Lake Washington just north of Interstate-90.  One can’t talk about this area without mentioning that the area is culturally diverse.  This area is Seattle’s oldest residential neighborhood.

In this area of Seattle we found it impossible to produce meaningful visitor’s maps following the neighborhood lines so we simplified the neighborhoods in East Seattle (east of I-5).

Our Central Area is the south end of the City’s Central Area.  The north end of the City’s Central Area is in our Madrona Park page.

Our Central Area runs along the Shore of Lake Washington from Union Street on the north to Interstate-90 on the south.  It runs from 23rd Avenue in the west, east to the Lake Washington Shore.  This area is mainly residential with limited commercial areas.

Our Central Area consists of the neighborhoods of; Mann (south end), Madrona (south end), Leschi, and that portion of Atlantic east of 23rd Avenue and north of I-90.

There are three distinct areas where tourist services exist, Leschi Beach on Lake Washington, on Union Street and on 23rd Avenue on the western edge of this area.

The map shown at the left is of Seattle Washington.  Our Central Area is shown in RED.

Click below for an enlarged map of

Madrona Park and the Central Area.

Our Central area is east of both the First Hill area  and downtown Seattle. Our Central Area does not conform to the City of Seattle’s Central Area neighborhood.

The Neighborhoods along the lake.

The South end of the Madrona Neighborhood and the Leschi Neighborhood make up the shoreline area along Lake Washington in the Central Area of Seattle.  This area is mainly made up of hills so much of the residentail area has views of Lake Washington and the Cascade Mountains.

The Madrona Neighborhood

The Madrona Neighborhood has its own website.  This community’s boundaries are from Denny Street on the north to Cherry Street and Terrace Street on the south and from Martin Luther King on the west to Lake Washington on the east.  The southern part of this area is in our Central Area.

The Leschi Neighborhood

Seattle’s Leschi Neighborhood is the southern part of our Central Area.  Its boundaries are from Cherry Street on the north, Martin Luther King Way on the west and I-90 on the south with Lake Washington shoreline on the east side of the neighborhood.
