Area - BellTown.jpgWhere is Belltown

We have split Seattle into three regions of neighborhoods.  North is those neighborhoods north of the Ship Canal and Lake Union.  As you can see on the map to the left the Ship Canal goes from Puget Sound to Lake Washington separating north Seattle for the rest of Seattle.

Seattle’s Central Neighborhood Region run south from the Ship Canal to the south end of Elliott Bay and Seattle’s Southern Neighborhood Region is those neighborhoods south of Elliott Bay.

The map shown to the left shows the Belltown area of Seattle in red.  Belltown is at the north end of  downtown Seattle.

Bell Town is south of Seattle Center where the Space Needle is located. When traveling north on the numbered streets from downtown Seattle you can tell when you enter Belltown because the street takes a 30° turn to the left.

Neighborhood - BelltownThe map to the right is turned for simplicity but is actually in the position shown above the map with the compass rose in the center.  You can see how the six downtown neighborhoods intermesh on our downtown map page.

In the not-to-distant past Belltown left something to be desired.  Today upscale condos and apartments fill the area turning it into an ultra-hip neighborhood that is also home to some of the most popular restaurants, galleries, boutiques and nightclubs.

Denny Regrade

This area used to be a hill and to many this hill kept the downtown area from growing northward.  In the late 1800’s the City literally removed the hill and made this area into the flat land it is today.  To many locals this area will always be the Denny Regrade.
