US Highway 50

The Lake Tahoe Area consists of Douglas, Washoe, and Carson
City Counties, Nevada, USA
It includes the cities of Carson City, Glenbrook, Incline Village, Silver City, Silver Springs, South Lake Tahoe, Virginia City, Zephyr Cove, Nevada
The Great Western Circle Tour runs from west to east on US-50 to
Carson City then up Nevada 341 west of Carson City to Virginia City and from
there to Reno.
Alternately, if you are
going to bypass this attraction rich area you would take Interstate 80 through
this area.

Mile Post 3 - Zephyr Cove – A resort on US Forest Service
Lands with a gift shop, restaurant, cabins, an RV Park, beach, and pier with
sternwheeler rides on Lake Tahoe.
Mile Post 9 – Glenbrook
Mile Post 12 – Junction with
Nevada Highway 28 north to Incline Village and the north Lake Tahoe area. Highway 28 joins with CA 28 at the north end
of Lake Tahoe and CA 89 at the northwest corner of the lake and circles the
lake to join with US Highway 50 in California at the south end of Lake Tahoe.
Milepost 15 – Spooner Pass,
elevation 7,140 feet above sea level.

Mile Post 22 – Junction with US
Highway 395 south to Gardnerville / US Highway 50 and NV 395 join and head
north to Carson City.

Milepost 25 – Carson City, NV /
Junction with US 395 north 30 mi. to Reno
Carson City is a historic frontier
town with roots to the California Gold Rush era, that spilled over into Nevada.

continues west from Carson City on US Highway 50 to Milepost 29
Mile Post 29 – Junction with
Highway 341 north to Silver City and Virginia City – This turn to the north
goes to the historic mining towns of Silver City and Virginia City with their
mining town atmosphere of the 1850’s.

Mile Post 30 – Dayton
Mile Post 56 – Silver Springs / Alternate
US Highway 50 to Fernley and Interstate 80 east of
Reno
If you choose this route to
Interstate 80 you will save several hours and miss the traffic in Reno. This is the fastest route from Lake Tahoe to
Interstate 80 if you are headed east and need to make up some time at the cost
of not seeing the Virginia City area and Reno.
