On our “Great Western Circle” Tour we traveled on Interstate 15 from Interstate 80 in Salt Lake City and went north to the Utah / Idaho State Line.  We continued up Interstate 15, in Idaho, to Idaho Falls.  Now we travel northeast from Idaho Falls on US Highway 20, on this page, on our way to Yellowstone National Park.

Milepost 407 – Idaho / Montana State Line

Milepost 502 – Henrys Lake State Park – Fifteen miles for Yellowstone Park with 45 campsites 26 with water & electricity.  They are on a reservation system.  It is often easier to get a campsite here and take day trips into the park.  Their web site is http://www.idahoparks.org/parks/henrys.html

Milepost 379 – Mesa Falls Scenic Lookout

Milepost 378 – Harriman State Park Entrance – Known as Railroad Ranch.  This was a private retreat of the Harriman’s who owned the Union Pacific Railroad.  Today the park is part of a 16,000 acre wild life reserve.  There is no camping here. City of St. Anthony – Population 3010 and the elevation is 4971 feet above sea level.  Their Chamber as a web page: http://www.stanthonychamber.com/.  They have a visitor center at 114 N. Bridge St. St. Anthony, ID 83445,  phone 208-624-4870. The visitor center is open May 21 to Sept. 15.  The St. Anthony Sand Dunes lie east of the city and are 10,000 acres of quartz sand dunes that range from 10 to 4,000 feet high and are a Mecca for ATV’s.

The City of Rexburg – Population 17,257  The town was founded in 1883 by Thomas E. Ricks who also founded Ricks College that is located here.  The Rexburg Chamber has a web site: http://www.rexcc.com/  The Teton Flood Museum is located at 51 N. Center Street

Exit 336 – North Rexburg – There is fuel 2 mi. east of exit

Exit 333 – Rexburg – HOSPITAL – There is gas food, and lodging at this exit

Exit 331 – South Rexburg

Exit 328 – Thornton / Rexburg –

Exit 326 – Madison County Line – Yellowstone Bear World park and RV parks are located here

Exit 325 – Lorenzo – There are no facilities at this exit

Exit 322 – North Rigby Business Loop / Jefferson Recreation Area – There is lodging, fuel, and food at this exit.

Exit 320 – Rigby – The Television & Pioneer Museum, gas, food, and lodging is located at this exit.

Exit 313 – Ucon – There are no facilities at this exit

Milepost 228 – Craters of the Moon National Monument  (It is 78 mi. from Idaho Falls to Craters of the Moon)  The National Park Service has a web site for information on this lava field with its interesting natural features and lava tubes (caves); http://www.nps.gov/crom/.  Fees:  Vehicle $4.00, individual $2.00, campsite $10.00 / night/ first come – first served.  There is a NPS visitor center here.

Milepost 0 of US Highway 20 – Oregon / Idaho State Line at Ontario, Oregon at the bridge over the snake river (US Highway 20 and Interstate 84 share the same roadway from here to Mountain Home, ID.
