The Crescent
City Area is actually Del Norte
County, the Northwest county of California and its Northern Border is the Oregon / California
State Line.
The photo is of Battery
Point Lighthouse located at the
Northwest corner of the Crescent
City Harbor. It was built in 1856. The lighthouse is the oldest continuously
operating lighthouse in California and the
10th oldest lighthouse on the Pacific Coast. It has operated for over 100 years. There is a museum with historical displays
on the island. At high tide it is an
island but at low this spit of land can be reached by a short walk over the
rocky beach. Watch your time or you
will be marooned on the island until the tide goes out again.

Highway 199 to Grants Pass Oregon –
Heads East from Highway 101, 17 miles south of the Oregon/California State
Line and 4 miles north of Crescent
City. If you drive an RV or don’t like curvy
roads, this road is the best choice to go inland to get to Interstate 5. This is still a mountain pass so don’t
expect too much, it still has a lot of curves.

located beside. Gold rush supply ships
used the river to deliver mining supplies. The ship traffic resulted in the
need for a community to receive and distribute the supplies and by 1850 there
were over twenty dwellings in the area.
After several ships were lost to the rocky river bottom, fast current, ever
changing bar, and perilous surf ships quite using the river.
Today Klamath is a Mecca
for camping, hiking, river rafting, jet boat tours, and other nature
attractions, being in the middle of the Redwood National and State
