The largest city on southwest Oregon is Medford. It is on Interstate-5 about 30 mi. north of the Oregon/California State Line and 270 mi. south of Portland. It is only 373 miles to San Francisco so Medford is a good half-way stop.

Medford is world renowned for its pears and other agricultural products. There are 9 golf courses in Medford and 32 in the region so it is easy to see that there is more than agriculture in the area. Medford is the commercial and tourist center for the southwest Oregon region.

Medford has a population of over 60,000 but Jackson County’s population is over 180,000 and that population plus the large tourist population gives the city the necessary base to provide the many facilities it has for the visitor.

Medford has a mild climate with only around 20 inches of rain annually and average temperatures of 36 degrees in the winter and 94 in the summer. There are usually only about 15 days in the summer when the temperature is over 100 degrees.

The elevation of Medford is at 1,382 feet above sea level and it is protected by surrounding mountains. You’ll like the fall season in Medford when the leaves turn with their vivid fall colors. You’ll also like the other unique and distinct seasons here.

Medford has a growing wine industry with award winning wines to taste and buy. You will also enjoy the food at its diverse and popular restaurants.
