You will find visitor information about Jacksonville, Oregon on this page.  Jacksonville, OR is located 4 miles west of Medford Oregon via OR 238 at Interstate-5 Exit 30.

Jacksonville is only 30 miles north of the Oregon / California State Line so it just seem right that Jacksonville was part of the Gold Rush.  Jacksonville was founded in 1851.

Jacksonville ha more than 100 historic buildings from the Gold Rush era and Main Street could be right out of the era if it weren’t for the modern cars parked along the street.

They have even made a display of an old well that was dug here in the distant past with a clear plastic cover so you can look right down into the well.

Jacksonville was named one of the top twelve “Distinctive Destinations” by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Your first stop in Jacksonville should be the Visitors Center.  It is located in the old railroad station downtown.

A school project at Jacksonville Elementary School grew into an extensive woodland trail system accessible on foot or by bicycle.  You can get walking tour maps showing the trails at the Visitor Center.

If you want a true feeling of what life was like here 150 years ago visit the Oregon Historical Society’s Beekman House Museum and meet the “Beekmans.”  This living exhibit is on display each summer.

If the cars were replaced by

horse drawn wagons

you’d think it was 1851.

Don’t overlook the Southern Oregon Historical Society’s  museum that is housed in the 1883 Jackson County Courthouse or the Children’s Museum that is in the Historic County Jail next store.

Jacksonville is also famous for its theatrical productions.  The Britt Outdoor Performing Arts Theater is the oldest outdoor theater of its kind in the Northwest.  They have world class jazz, classical, and country performances.  Every summer crowds flock to the Peter Britt Music Festival.
