Winchester Bay,
Oregon is located on the Southern Oregon Coast on the Pacific Coast Scenic
Byway, US Highway-101.

Winchester Bay is
located near the mouth of the Umpqua River, on the Pacific Coast, in the
heart of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area.
The main recreation
draw in the area is riding ATV’s on the dunes. There is a 40 mile long stretch of dunes
in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area from Florence to North Bend,
Oregon. The highest dunes in the
world are located, some of them over 500 feet tall.

For the visitor there
are due buggy rides with tour guides and there are ATV rentals so you can
take an individual ride on your own ATV.
For those of you
who don’t want a wild ride on the sand dunes there is the 65 foot high
Umpqua Lighthouse to visit. It has
been showing ships and boats the way for over 100 years. It is still an operating beacon but you
can get a tour and even see the lens.
And there is the
beach, miles and miles of wide sandy beach with 12 access parking
lots. So if its Ocean Beach that you
want there is an abundant supply.

If it is the ocean
or sport fishing that tweaks your interest there are charter boats that
will take care of all your desires.
The fishing is good in this area both in the ocean and in the Umpqua
River.
If you’re a camper
there are lots of places to camp in the area and you can even just camp on
the sand in specific places in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation
Area. Be prepared for sand in your
tent and everywhere else.

Set among a forest of pine trees the park is located on
Eel Lake on the east side of US-101. The park has 94 sites with electricity
and 16 yurts. Some sights and all
yurts are reserveable. To the west
on the other side of US-101 is the Oregon Dunes National Recreation
Area. Open year round.
