Visitor information about Reedsport, OR. Reedsport, Oregon is located on the
Southern Oregon Coast on the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway, US
Highway-101.

Reedsport is the gateway to the Oregon Dunes National
Recreation Area. This Recreation
Area stretches from Florence to Coos Bay.
That is over 40 miles of coastline.
The highest dunes in the United States are found in this area.
The dunes and the ATV opportunities they provide are by
far the largest draw to the area but not the only draw. There are miles and miles of unspoiled
ocean beaches to explore from over 11 beach area parking lots.
To add to the mix of visitor attractions there are 30
lakes, 14 developed hiking trails, 13 campgrounds and over 10,000 acres of
off-highway riding areas.

Visitor Center
Your first stop
when you arrive in Reedsport should be the visitor center where your can
find up to the minute information on attractions and activities. The Visitor Center is located at the junction
of OR Highway-38 and US Highway-101.
You will find
Chamber of Commerce staff as well as Rangers from the US Forest Service
there to assist you with the information you need to enjoy your trip.
The lobby of the
Visitor Center has interpretive displays of dunes geology, regional
wildlife, and history of the local native people.
If you arrive early
or late, the foyer is well stocked with free information and brochures of
local attractions.

The Dunes
and Parks in Reedsport
The dunes are an
amazing place. There are no other
dunes like these dunes in the world.
Thousands of years of ocean waves and wind have developed dunes over
500 feet tall over 40 miles of coastline.
The most amazing thing is that the dunes are not stable but an ever
changing dynamic.
The sign shown in
the photo to the left says, “Sand Camping…”
You are allowed to just camp on the sand in certain areas of the
park and here even a parking lot is provided. However, if you decide to camp in a
campground don’t expect there to be nice clean dirt and some grass, no you
will find sand everywhere and always moving in the wind.
