When you see this sign you know you are on the right road. The Pacific Coast Scenic Byway is famous for its bridges. Don’t miss seeing the architecture and engineering of these famous bridges.

Brookings and Harbor are located on the outlet of the Chetco River into the Pacific Ocean. The headwaters of the Chetco River are in the Kalmiopsis Wilderness Area in the Coastal Mountain Range east of Brookings.

About ¼ of the Oregon Coast is in Curry County. Brookings is about 6 miles north of the California State Line in Curry County. The majority of the County is in the Siskiyou National Forest which is in the Coastal Mountain Range. The Siskiyou National Forest offers a wide range of hiking opportunities.

America’s Wild Rivers Coast

The Chetco River is designated one of America’s Wild Rivers. There are now 8 rivers on over 100 miles of the Pacific Coast in Southern Oregon and Northern California that make up the America’s Wild Rivers Coast.

The Two Communities

Both Brookings and Harbor are located where the Chetco River meets the sea. Brookings is an incorporated city but Harbor is an unincorporated community located in Curry County.

The Weather

The Brookings area is in a unique geographical setting and can experience temperatures of 70-80° any month of the year. They call this area Oregon’s Banana Belt.

The Port

Much of the activity in the area revolves around the Port that is located on the south bank of the Chetco River west of US-101.

You will find charter fishing boats, whale watching trips, a public beach, restaurants, the docks, restaurants, espresso, and much more at the port facility.
