The Town of Mt. Angel

Mt. Angel is on the eastern edge of the Willamette River Valley about 18 miles east of Salem and about 4 miles north of Silverton on OR-214. Mt. Angel has a population of around 3,000.

The city was incorporated in 1893 by German settlers and it still has an old world atmosphere embedded into the city by its founders.  Many of the buildings have a Bavarian theme.

Its Oktoberfest is regionally famous.  It is the largest folk festival in the Northwest.  It is usually held the second Thursday after Labor Day and runs thru Sunday.  You will find German Beer and German food in abundance.

Mt. Angel Abbey was built in 1883 by Swiss Benedictine monks.  It sits high above the surrounding area on a 300 foot high bluff.  The drive up to the Abbey is open to visitors.  The road winds up through manicured gardens.
