Warrenton, Oregon

Warrenton is Oregon’s most northwest city located at the mouth of the Columbia River on Oregon’s North Coast.

Warrenton was built on tide flats.  It was first platted in 1889 and incorporated as a city in 1899.  Dikes had been previously built, in 1878, to stabilize the land around the mouth of the Columbia River.

Warrenton has a population of around 4500.  In the summer its population swells with vacationers.  Fort Stevens state park is located by Warrenton.  Fort Stevens is one of Oregon’s premier State Parks on the Pacific Coast.  Warrenton is also known for its charter fishing fleet.

Warrenton is located at the end of the Lewis and Clark Trail.  Fort Clatsop, where the Lewis and Clark party spent the winter of 1805, is located southeast of Warrenton and South of the Clatsop County Airport on US-101-Business.

The replica of the fort that has been there for years recently burned and is being rebuilt.  There is a National Parks visitor center at the site with a wealth of information and displays about the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

Warrenton has a new shopping area on US-101 at the west end of the Youngs Bay Bridge.  You will also find the Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center in this area.
