Troutdale has a population of over 13,000 people and an elevation of 73 feet above sea level.  It is located northeast of Portland on the Columbia River.  Troutdale is part of the Columbia River Gorge recreation area.

In the map at the left Troutdale is about where the I-84 sign is on the right of the map.

The main street in historic Troutdale is about three blocks long and for the main part freshly painted with a variety of antique stores and restaurants

McMenamin’s Edgefield is a can’t miss part of Troutdale.  Located on what was once the County Poor Farm it now has a European style hotel in the original building. It has a variety of Pubs and dining on the site.  There is a fine dining room in the main building. You can see the main building peaking out around the trees.

The view at the left (taken from a car) shows the vineyard in the foreground and the parking lot in front of the main building beyond.  We were there on a Wednesday in September and the facility was full of people in the beer garden listening to live music.

One of the main reasons to stay in Troutdale is the fact that it is the Gateway to the Columbia River Scenic Highway.  The highway begins in downtown Troutdale and heads east.  There are interesting view points and several. waterfalls that you will want to see on this highway build in 1916,
