Beaverton has a population of over 75,000 with an elevation of 188 feet above sea level.  Beaverton was established in 1868 by the Oregon Central Railroad as a shipping point and terminal southwest of Portland.  Today it has become a center for light industry, electronics, and research.

In the map at the left Beaverton is just 7 mi. west of Portland about where the OR-217 sign is shown.

If you drive around Beaverton it won’t surprise you to find out the number one industry in terms of total employment is food and drink establishments.  Beaverton is Oregon’s fifth largest city in the heart of Washington County.

It is said that Beaverton lies in the middle of Oregon’s “Silicon Forest” the center of electronic and high-tech manufacturing.  It is Portland’s second largest suburb.  There are more than 100 parks in the community.

Wine Industry

One of the better sites in the world to grow wine grapes is located in Oregon State.  The Willamette Valley has many diverse geo-climates.  Oregon is ranked fourth in the United States in wine production.

Among the varietals grown in the region you will find gewurqtraminer, Riesling, cabernet Sauvignon, muller-thurgau, and pinot gris.  Although we have not counted, there seems to be hundreds of wineries in Oregon.  You will find two located in Beaverton.

More information about Oregon wineries can be found at www.oregonwine.org.
