The eastern two thirds of Washington State is uniquely different from the western Washington coastal plain that lies west of the Cascade Mountains. Western Washington’s signature is dense dark green Douglas Fir forests and the rain required to grow those forests.

Eastern Washington lies east of the Cascade Mountain range that holds the moisture from the Pacific Storms to the west. That gives Eastern Washington a

dryer, warmer climate in the tourist season and a colder and dryer climate in the winter months.

In the photo to the right you see some of the barren hills of the high dessert in eastern Washington.

If that those hills were in western Washington you would see dense forests but on the dryer high desert plain of Eastern Washington you see less vegetation. In the summer the only green you will see on the hills in wine country, will be irrigated orchards and green belts along the rivers and streams. The real treat in this area is in the spring when the grasses and other vegetation on the hills are green and the trees in the orchards are blooming.

Fort Simcoe State Park visit the Park's web site. A 200-acre, day-use heritage park on the Yakima Indian Nation Reservation. The park is primarily an interpretive effort, telling the story of mid-19th century army life and providing insights into the local Native American culture of the time.	Brooks Memorial State Park On US-97 about 40 mi. SW of Toppenish. Visit the Park's web site. 23 RV/Utility sites and 22 tent sites. This 700 acre park lies between the Yakima Valley’s barren hills and the lodgepole pine forests of the Simcoe Mountains.
US Army Corps of Engineers	South of Kennewick
Crow Butte Park PO Box 276 Paterson, WA 99345 509-875-2644 Previously a State Park. Now operated by a non-profit on Army Corps of Engineers lands. The park is 27 mi. west of I-82 Exit 131 on WA-14 on the Columbia River in southern Benton County.	Charbonneau Park 642 Campground Road Burbank, WA 99323 509-547-2048 Visit the Park's web site 8.3 mi. west of Burbank, WA on WA-124, east of Pasco, on Lake Sacagawea. It is a 244 acre park with 54 tent/RV site with 18 pull-thru. This is a reservation campground. See web site for information.
US Army Corps of Engineers	East of Pasco
