WA-Counties01-Pacific.jpgWhere is Raymond, WA

Raymond, WA in on Washington State’s Pacific Coast.  It is located at the Junction of US Highway-101 and Washington State Route-6 or SR-6 (WA-6 on this site).

Raymond is in Pacific County.  Pacific County is shown in red on the map to the left.

Raymond is about 7 miles upriver from the mouth of the Willapa River where it empties into Willapa Bay.

Three ways to get to Raymond by Car

First – If you are on Interstate-5 take exit 72 at Chehalis and head west on WA-6.  This is the scenic, back road route.  Much of the route goes along the southern edge of the Willapa Hills State Forest.  About 15 miles west of Chehalis you come to Rainbow Falls State Park.  It is 45 miles from I-5 to Raymond.

Second – From the north, travel south from Aberdeen, WA on US-101 for about 23 miles.  Many coming from the north on I-5 take Exit 103 in south Olympia and head west on US-101 / WA-8 (SR-8) to Aberdeen.  It is 48 miles from I-5 to Aberdeen.  This route is faster than WA-6.

Third – If on the Oregon Coast head north on US-101.  Raymond is 49 miles north of the Washington / Oregon State Line.

Photo of steel sculpture in park

The City of Raymond is full of art.

You can see steel art all along city streets and in the parks in Raymond.  The photo above shows steel sculptures of two fishermen by an old boat.  It is located in a picnic area south of town on Highway 101.

The mural on the building at Blake and 5th Streets depicts the history of the community.  The mural is on the wall of the local General Store named Dennis Company.  This interesting General Store is also worth a visit.

About Raymond

The Population of Raymond is around 3000 and it was first incorporated as a city in 1907.  The nearby City of South Bend has a population of around 1700 making the local population well over 5,000 when you count those who live outside the city limits.  In 1913 the lumber mill town of Raymond had a population of 6,000 and its waterfront was lined with lumber mills.  Today only one high tech sawmill exists on the waterfront.

Today you will find a paved trail, The Willapa River Trail, which winds along the river for more than 5 miles from South Bend to Raymond.  Along the trail you will see piling and some other remains of those limber mills along the river.  The trail is part of the Willapa Hills State Trail completed in 2001 by the Washington State Parks Department.  The trail runs 56 miles on the old railroad right of way from Chehalis to South Bend, just south of Raymond.

As you can see from the photos below, Raymond is full of steel sculptures.  There is a surprise around almost every corner
