This area is only an hour’s drive from Portland, Oregon. Because of the close proximity to large population, the area is highly visited. That means there are lots of tourist facilities to choose from along the Pacific Coast The map shows the ocean beach area in Southwest Washington State and Northwest Oregon State and the roads used to access the area. US Highway-101 is the “Pacific Coast Highway.” US-101 starts in Olympia, Washington goes northwest along the Hood Canal on the east side of the Olympic Mountains then west along the Strait of Juan de Fuca thru Sequim, WA and Port Angeles, WA then inland to Forks, WA. US-101 then heads south to the Pacific Ocean Beaches at Kalaloch, WA then south to Aberdeen, WA completing its loop around the Olympic Peninsula. From Aberdeen, WA US-101 continues south down the Washington coast, Oregon Coast and the California Coast to Los Angeles, CA. Through most of the trip down the west coast US-101 is out of sight of the ocean itself. The only places it really follows the coastline is near Kalaloch, in Washington State, in central and southern Oregon and a portion of northern California from Crescent City, Ca to Eureka, CA and a portion from Santa Barbara to Oxnard in southern California.
