Nahcotta
Nahcotta is a community on the Longbeach Peninsula
in Washington State. The Longbeach Peninsula is located on the
southern Washington Pacific Coast.
US Highway-101 enters the Longbeach Peninsula from the north
on 40th Street. If you
turn north (right) on Pacific Highway (WA-103), at the west end of the
road, you will be in Seaview.
Seaview runs from 35th Place to 51st
Place.
When you pass 51st Place, you enter the City
of Long Beach. Long Beach runs from
19th Street in the south to 100th Street in the
north.
If you travel 11 miles north from 40th Street
you will come to Bay Avenue where WA-103 turns to the right. At this point you are in Ocean Park on
the west (ocean) side of the peninsula.
If you travel east on Bay Avenue to where WA-103 turns north you are
in the Community of Nahcotta.
Nahcotta lies on Willapa Bay on the east side of the Longbeach
Peninsula.
In Nahcotta you will find the docks of the Port of
Nahcotta and the Willapa Bay Interpretive Center. The east side of the Peninsula has a bay
atmosphere rather than an ocean beach atmosphere. We have found it quieter with less wind
and noise.

Since 1950 the Ark Restaurant
has been on Willapa
Bay in Nahcotta
serving its famous food.
Nahcotta is located on
the east shore of the Long Beach Peninsula around 11 miles up the Willapa Bay shore. The area was settled by J.A. Moorehead in
1890.
The village’s real claim
to fame was that it was the terminus of a local narrow gage railroad that
ran from the dock of the “Ferry to Astoria” in Ilwaco to Nahcotta. Today this small village mainly depends
on the tourist industry. The Willapa Bay
Oyster House – Interpretive Center is located here as well as on of the Peninsula’s more famous restaurants.
The Port
of Peninsula has a boat harbor on Willapa Bay in Nahcotta. Most of the oyster industry is located
here. This area is a working port
with large piles of oyster shells and many work vehicles and vessels of the
oyster industry.
There is a state
shellfish laboratory located here as well as small interpretive park
dedicated to Willapa Bay. Before
settlement, Chinook Chief Nahcati’s camp was located just south of the
Port’s boat basin.
