The welcome to Sequim sign

This sign welcomes visitors at the East entrance to Sequim on US Highway 101.

“Sunny” Sequim has a population of around 4000 and has become a very popular place to retire in recent years.  This comes mainly from the fact that Sequim is in the Olympic Mountain Range rain shadow.  Sequim only averages about 17 inches of rain a year making it necessary to irrigate crops.

The Sequim-Dungeness Chamber of Commerce has a great web site.  To visit their web site click here

The lighthouse at Dungeness Spit still operates as a beacon to shipping.  It marks the end of the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge from the shore.  For bird watchers the refuge offers a Mecca. There are a number of trails in the area for your enjoyment.  This is a fee area and in 2001 a single visit pass costs $3.00 for those over 16.  The easiest way to find the area is to drive until you reach the Dungeness Recreation Area campground, then follow the signs to the spit trail parking lot.

The Olympic Game Farm is also located in the Dungeness area, north of Sequim, and has a driving tour that takes 45 minutes to an hour.  They have buffalo, bears, lions, cougars, llamas, elk, bobcats, coyote and much more.  For more information click on their hot link under attractions at the bottom of this page.

The Sequim Museum and Arts Center is located at 175 W. Cedar Street in downtown Sequim.  It is open from 9AM to 4PM Monday through Saturday. This museum is filled with  local historic exhibits including a display about the Wooly Mammoth remains that were found locally in 1975.  They have a model of the diggings, a video, and some displays.

The Old Dungeness Schoolhouse is also operated by the Sequim Museum and Arts Center.  It is located in the Dungeness area north of town at 2781 Towne Road on the Dungeness Scenic Look which starts on Sequim Avenue.  It has been listed as a Washington State Historical Site and has been a beacon in the area for more than 100 years.  It was built in 1892 and functioned as a school until 1955.  We don’t believe the school is open for tours at this time, but is used for social events.
