8-SnohomishCo-Highways.jpgEdmonds, Washington is located on Puget Sound about 15 mi. north of downtown Seattle.  Edmonds is about 120 miles east of Washington’s Pacific Coast on the inland waters of Puget Sound.

. WA is located in Snohomish County in northwestern Washington State.  Snohomish County is shown in red on the Washington State map shown to the left.

Edmonds is southwest of Lynnwood on the shores of Puget Sound.  Washington State Ferries has a terminal on the Edmonds waterfront.  The ferries go across Puget Sound to the Kitsap Peninsula landing at Kingston.

Edmonds is most easily found by taking Interstate-5 Exit 177, the Edmonds / Kingston Ferry exit, and traveling west for about 4.7 miles.  Drive past the ferry lines and turn right onto Main Street.

In a couple blocks you will be in the heart of Edmonds Downtown area.  Edmonds quaint downtown demands that you park your car and walk through and visit the many shops and restaurants.  Edmonds has a population of around 40,000 and is located on a gentle bluff facing Puget Sound.  Much of the land in and around the city has beautiful views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains on the Olympic Peninsula to the west.

A Washington State Ferry on a windy winter day

Edmonds Historic Downtown is full of one of a kind merchants that offer antiques, house wares, soap Lotions, candles, lace, art, and hand crafted items.  There is a wide variety of building architure many of which are from the turn of the century.

For the traveler a main attraction has to be the ferry.  Even if you don’t want to travel to the Kitsap Peninsula you can purchase a round trip “walk on” and ride the ferry over and back and spend an hour traveling on the Puget Sound waters.

If you have the time we suggest you take your car on the ferry and then drive down the Kitsap Peninsula to Bremerton and take the ferry from Bremerton to Seattle then drive back to Edmonds.  In the summer the ferry crossing is usually so flat a marble won’t roll of a table but in the winter during a storm, like in the photo above, the ferries will actually roll a bit in the waves.
