The Community of Greenbank is an unincorporated Village on Whidbey Island in northwest Washington. The village probably has a population of under 250. You will be hard put to find a “downtown” area. We think it is Greenbank Farm. Whidbey Island is in Puget Sound, an inland body of water that is connected to the Pacific Ocean by the 60 mile long Strait of Juan de Fuca. Greenbank’s claim to fame is two fold. It is located on the narrowest piece of land on Whidbey Island with the Puget Sound to the West and Saratoga Passage between the islands east shore and Camano Island to the east. It’s second claim to fame is Greenbank Farm.
This farm has a long history on Whidbey Island growing crops and making wine. Today the 550 acre farm has been put in public ownership. The draw is that it is a shopping center made for tourists. There is a cheese store, a wine tasting room, and a café that serves the best Loganberry pie we have ever tasted. They have an events facility that has specialty shows and a second building full of interesting shops. This is a great place to stop, have lunch, finish off lunch with some loganberry pie, and do a little shopping.
