The Community of Freeland is on Whidbey Island in northwest Washington. Whidbey Island is in Puget Sound, an inland body of water that is connected to the Pacific Ocean by the 60 mile long Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Freeland is only about 30 miles north of Seattle but because you have to take a Washington State Ferry or drive 30 miles north of Freeland to Burlington then head west and south on WA-20 it is really a lot farther from Seattle. When you get there it will really feel like it is a long way to Seattle.

Freeland is a small, unincorporated community in Island County. It is mid-island about 37 miles south of the Deception Pass Bridge and 27 miles south of Oak Harbor.

Freeland is about 9 miles north of the Clinton Terminal of the Mukilteo to Clinton Washington State Ferry.

When you get to Freeland not only will you find a small, quaint community, you will also find they live by “Island Time.” Island Time operates on the philosophy of “never do today what can be put off to tomorrow.” Simply put, you will not find the fast pace of Seattle in the Islands. This is a great place to rest, sleep, eat, and do a little shopping in the galleries and gift shops.
