The Community of Coupeville is on Whidbey Island in northwest Washington. Whidbey Island is in Puget Sound, an inland body of water that is connected to the Pacific Ocean by the 60 mile long Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Coupeville is a small community of about 1400 people. It is located on a bluff above the south shore of Penn Cove. Penn Cove is located under the word “Coupeville” on the map to the left. Penn Cove nearly cuts Whidbey Island in half leaving only about a 1.5 mile strip of land between Penn Cove and the west shore of the island. Most of the land on this spit is occupied by Fort Ebey State Park. Coupeville is about 1.5 miles up the south shore of Penn Cove. Both State Route-20 (WA-20 on this site) and Madrona Way (old WA-20 from the head of Penn Cove) follow Penn Cove’s south shore and both will take you to Coupeville from the west end of Penn Cove.

The main commercial area of Coupeville, Front Street, parallels the shoreline and is about 4 blocks long. The backs of the buildings on the north side of the street are literally on the beach. The street is lined with interesting shops.

Main Street is the road from the stop light and pedestrian overpass on WA-20. This is the main entrance into the community. You will find the city hall and the police plus lodging and restaurants on Main Street also.
