WA-Counties01-skagit.jpg

Bow, Alger, and Edison are three small communities in the northwest corner of Skagit County, Washington.  Skagit County is shown in red on the map of Washington State to the left.

Bow

Bow, WA is a small village in northwestern Skagit County in Washington State.  Bow is actually located on the southern portion of Chuckanut Drive –  State Route-11 (WA-11) just south of where WA-11 leaves the Chuckanut Mountains and enters the flat lands of the Skagit River Valley.

Bow is 4 miles northwest of Interstate-5 Exit 231(Chuckanut Drive) in Burlington.

At the intersection that is Downtown Bow (Junction of WA-11 and the Bow Hill Road) you will find the Post Office on the west side of the road and the Rhododendron Café on the east side of the road.

This is a rural area consisting of farmlands on the Skagit River Delta and rural residential areas on the hills to the north and east of Bow.

Edison

Edison has a population of 133 in the 2000 census.  Edison is on the flat farmlands of the Skagit River Valley.  Edison is 4 miles west of WA-11 on the Bow Hill Road.  This is a farming community with a liquor store, two restaurants/taverns, and several empty commercial buildings.

Alger

Alger is 14 miles north of Mount Vernon on old Highway-99, further north than Bow and Edison and on the east side of Interstate-5.  Alger is about a mile east of Interstate-5 Exit 240 and it is nearly on the northern Border of Skagit County.

Alger has a restaurant/tavern, a motel, and a couple other businesses.  Alger is in the foothills of the Chuckanut Mountains.  In the 2000 census its population was 89 people.  Alger’s claim to fame is the Skagit Speedway which is south of the community on old Highway-99.
