Vancouver City of White Rock	Where is the Greater Vancouver Area? The Greater Vancouver Area is made up of 20 communities which run together in most cases. The Greater Vancouver area is synonymous with “The Lower Mainland” with a couple of exceptions. Abbotsford, Chilliwack, and Hope are in the Lower Mainland but are not in the Greater Vancouver Regional District. The Greater Vancouver Regional District is a governmental entity which is not necessarily tourist oriented. We have more information about it and links in Recommended Attractions below. The Greater Vancouver Area runs from the US border to the slopes of the Coastal Mountain Range north of Vancouver. It runs from the Strait of Georgia, in the west, to Abbotsford in the east. The map below shows the relative areas of most of those cities. We’re working on it! At this time we are updating our Lower Mainland pages.
