BC-LMainland01.jpgPemberton

Pemberton is located in the Pemberton Valley in British Columbia’s Coastal Range Mountains about 107 miles (172 Km) north of Vancouver, BC.  It has a population of just over 2,000 and nearly another 2,000 population in the surrounding Pemberton Valley, the first nations community of Mt. Currie, and the communities of D’Arcy and Birken.

The Valley is surrounded by the mountains and peaks of the Coastal Range.  The Valley is protected by the mountains making the weather warmer and less windy than at Whistler.

Location

Pemberton is located on BC Highway-99 about 19 miles (31 Km) north of Whistler.

Whistler is about 78 miles (125 Km) north of Vancouver, BC, Canada.  You travel west on Trans-Canada Highway-1 to the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal and turn right where BC Highway-99 heads north and goes up the east shore of Howe Sound on the Scenic Sea to Sky Highway.

You will reach Squamish at the head of Howe Sound you then continue on BC-99 for 36 mi. (58 Km) into the Coastal Mountain Range to Whistler and then another 19 miles to Pemberton.

About Pemberton

Until BC Highway-99 was completed in the 1960’s the only way to get to Pemberton was by train.  Pemberton lies at the foot of Mt. Currie.  It is the largest community in the Pemberton Valley.  The area was developed in the 1900’s mainly around logging and later after the lands were cleared, agriculture.  Today the area is famous for its seed potatoes.  It is also known for its winter recreation activities including cross country skiing and snowmobiling and in the summer for golfing, hiking, jet boating, river rafting, and para-gliding.
