The Village of Fort Langley is located in Langley Township in the lower mainland of British Columbia. Fort Langley is located on the banks of the Fraser River and is the birthplace of British Columbia.

The Albion Ferry

One of the most interesting things about Fort Langley is that McMillan Island is just off the shore of Fort Langley and there is a bridge across this small portion of the river to the island. On the other side of the island is the Albion Ferry. The free ferry runs every 15 minutes between Albion in Maple Ridge and McMillan Island by Fort Langley. There are two ferries, the Kulleet and the Klatawa. When the Golden Ears Bridge is opened in 2009 this ferry service will be terminated.

About Fort Langley

According to the Fort Langley BIA (below under Recommended Visitor Information) there are about 2700 residences and 100 businesses in Fort Langley.

The Grover Road is the main road into town and it runs right through the commercial district onto McMillan Island. Most of the businesses in the Village are on Grover. There are a wide variety of businesses including gift shops, restaurants, museums, and more.

Fort Langley National Historic Site.

When you are almost to the river on Grover Road turn right onto Mavis Avenue and go about two blocks and you will find the Fort Langley National Historic Site.

This site is a reconstruction of the original fort on this site built by the Hudson’s Bay Company. In 1830 this fort was the only European settlement on the Fraser River.

Inside the fort you will find recreations of the original buildings in the fort and staff in period costume
