Granville Street
and the Waterfront
Granville Street is the main
access to downtown Vancouver, BC using BC Highway-99. In the heart of downtown Granville is
closed to private vehicles and become a pedestrian Mall.
Granville and the streets around
it are really Historic Downtown Vancouver.
Here you will find “The Hudson’s Bay Company” occupying its grand
building. You will also find the
Hotel Vancouver’s green copper roof peaking up from a couple blocks to the
west and many other things that are “Vancouver.” On the map above the “Granville” area is
shown in light yellow. Officially
this area is the “Downtown” neighborhood.
In this area you will find
everything “Vancouver” like; world class hotels, restaurants of every type,
bars, nightclubs, and endless shopping.
Not only will you find the center of Vancouver in this area, you
will also find the Coal Harbour community along the shore of Burrard Inlet
with its waterfront hotels, cruise terminal, and convention center.
Pacific
Center – A downtown Shopping Mall
We have learned that the easiest
place to park in downtown Vancouver is Pacific Center. The Mall is a good place to start and end
your visit. The Pacific Center Shopping Mall is located above and below
ground here. It has underground
parking and connections to the various buildings in the mall. Pacific Center occupies a three full
blocks between Granville and Howe Streets (they are parallel and one block
apart). It runs from Robson Street
at the south past Georgia and Dunsmuir Streets to Pender Street on the
north.
