 Gastown
Vancouver
was born in Gastown. This is the
location of the first buildings in the area in 1867. “Gassy Jack” Deighton was a sailor and
gold prospector that settled in this area to open a tavern.

The
Gastown Historic District has cobblestone streets lined with Victorian era
brick buildings. There are a wide
variety of gift and souvenir shops.
There are informational plaques spread throughout the area that tell
the area’s history. This is an
excellent place to park your car and discover “Gastown.”

Gastown Steam Clock
Corner of Cambie and Water Streets
The world’s first steam clock whistles every 15 minutes with a gush
of steam and plays the Westminster chimes every hour.
