The City of Nanaimo is located on the protected eastern shore of Vancouver Island about 70 miles (110Km) north of Victoria.  It has a population of around 75,000.  Nanaimo began as a Hudson’s Bay outpost.  Later it became a booming coal-mining town.  Today Nanaimo is a beautiful harbor city with ferry terminals that make it a major connection to the mainland, Vancouver Islands major shipping port, yacht harbors, and a park on an island in the middle of the harbor with ferry service to the park.

Nanaimo offers a full plate of tourist activities from power boating, sailing, canoeing, skin diving, kayaking, and sport fishing on the water to spelunking, hiking, camping, horseback riding, shopping, museums, golfing, or exploring the beaches off of the water.
